Is there any point in sending a draft version of the text before it is finalized?

Not really. No one enjoys doing things twice, and to have almost completed a translation only to find that there is another version with numerous amendments is particularly irksome. Moreover, making the changes will take time whereupon the finished translation could cost you far more than is strictly necessary. And if all those changes have to be made in several different language versions...
That said, it is sometimes necessary to opt for 'the lesser of two evils'. If the translated text is needed urgently (perhaps a press release or an annual report which is eagerly awaited by the financial markets), we would be willing to begin immediately. However, this is not an ideal situation: the chance of mistakes increases with every new version.
